In the Shadow of an Oak
15×20″ charcoal on Rives BFK
This is the first in a series of shadow drawings.
Last week I was able to get away for a short amount of time, and went to draw with my artist friends at Descanso Gardens. I found shelter under and Oak tree. This was lucky because it was one of our 100º days. At first I thought, now how am I going to draw with all of these shadows, I didn’t bring an umbrella. Then the thought crossed my mind to draw the shadow. I love shadows, and how expressive they can be. This became a bit of a challenge, because the least bit of movement and the image was thrown completely off. I think it was a fun way to spend an hour.
